Mrs. Yuk Kuen Moy was born in Taishan, China, on September 17, 1935, the only child of Hei Geoi Lau and Kam Yung Lau Chan. She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 31, 2022. Ever since she was young, devotion to faith and family formed the core parts of her identity. She walked many miles just to attend church and school and helped her mother and grandparents tend to the crops planted on their family’s plot of land. She faced every obstacle that came her way with resilience and dedication. In 1957, she married Wing Lai Moy and soon after, immigrated to the United States, where they settled in Detroit, Michigan.
Mrs. Moy lovingly raised her four children, all while working tirelessly in the restaurant business to support her family. She was especially fond of her eight grandchildren and always made sure to make soup or Chinese pastries whenever they visited. She sacrificed herself so that her children and grandchildren could pursue their dreams. She always enjoyed cooking Chinese food for her family and tending a garden, where she planted bok choy, gai lan, and winter melons. Mrs. Moy was a devoted member of the Detroit Chinese Bible Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her Cantonese friends in the Ruth and Joy Fellowships and could always be found helping to prepare food in the kitchen for luncheons or special events. She had a firm, unwavering belief in God and prayed for her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren every day.
Mrs. Moy was preceded in death by her mother Kam Yung Lau Chan and her husband of 52 years, Wing Lai Moy. She leaves behind an inspiring legacy of grace, wisdom, and faith for her four children: Shirley Moy, Sandra (Michael) Connors, Daniel (Cindy) Moy, Sarah (Manuel) Cheng, and eight grandchildren: Jonathan Moy, Bali Connors, Jake Connors, Benjamin Moy, Christopher Moy, Mia Connors, Maxwell Cheng, and Natalie Cheng.
