Winston T. Churchill was born on September 15, 1922 to Percy and Maziebell Churchill, in Ionia, Michigan. His father was the town barber and Winston's first job at the age of 12, was polishing shoes at the barber shop. He played violin in the Ionia High School jazz band, and graduated in 1940. Winston joined the U.S. Army in 1941, and served in the Second Engineers Special Brigade, during World War II, stationed in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. Honorably discharged in 1945, Winston returned home and joined the Ionia Police Department as the first motorcycle patrolman; he quickly rose in ranks to become Assistant Chief of Police. On January 30, 1946 Winston married Marilyn (she would be his wife for 64 years,). He soon joined the Liquor Control Commission, and became the proud father of three: Melody Lepley of Livonia, Perry Churchill of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Winston Churchill II (Gloria) of St. Petersburg, Florida. In October 1950, Winston joined the FBI as a Special Agent, serving 27 years until retirement in 1977. He went on to become the first Magistrate of the 17th District Court in Redford Township, until retiring again, after 25 years of service to the Court. 'Retirement' has always been a life chapter marker for Winston, and in 1977, he began the next chapter of life by joining the Lions Club of Redford; he was also active as an Elder at Village Presbyterian Church and later, Redford Presbyterian Church. Winston loved family, friends, community and country; his long, happy life included a love of music. The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. The body will be In State on Monday morning, February 22, at 10 a.m. until time of Services, 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church 27475 5 Mile Road, in Livonia. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.
