William was born May 7, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan to Rudolf and Jennie Route. He graduated from Thomas E Cooley High School in 1939.
He married his beloved wife Audrienne in 1944 and is the loving father of two children, Charles and Deborah Lewis.
William graduated from General Motors Institute in 1943 and soon after, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp where he served his country from 1944 to 1946.
In 1955, he graduated from Wayne State University with a Master’s of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked as an engineer for General Motors for over 47 years.
As a member of the Detroit Yacht Club for over 50 years, William was able to pursue his passion for sailing.
