Walter Corwin Cory, age 80, passed away January 17, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Wm. Burton and Sarah (Miller) Cory. He is survived by siblings: Nancy Brown, Reynoldsburg, OH; Raymond (Carol), Spokane Valley, WA; Franklin (Karen), Hilliard, OH; Alan (Julia), Kent, OH; and Warren (Martha), Redwood City, CA; 13 nieces and nephews and many more great-nieces and great-nephews; and many good friends including but not limited to Gladys, Wanda, Jan and John. Walter was a life-long musician, spending over 30 years as an accompanist for the Detroit Public School System with tenures at Central High School and Cass Technical High School. He was a lifelong church musician with tenures at Eastminster Presbyterian Church and Old First Church in Columbus, OH and Trinity Presbyterian Church and St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in the Detroit area. During the 1960s he was rehearsal pianist and often played in the pit orchestra for the Kenley Players in Columbus and Dayton, OH. Also during that time he was arranger and accompanist for The Ohio State University Men's Glee Club under the direction of Professor Norman Staiger. During the 1980s he was arranger and accompanist for a dozen recitals of the American Musical Theatre performed by Carol Marty, her son, Dan, and Walt’s brother, Frank, at Capital University. He also accompanied the Langford Mens Chorus for many years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 27475 Five Mile, Livonia 48154.
