Virginia Louise Woods Johnson, Age 89, of Livonia passed away peacefully on January 23, 2016. She was the eldest of five children born to Pearl and George Woods on July 30, 1926. She graduated from Plymouth High School, where she met the love of her life (who was persistently passing her “love” notes in class), Wendell Johnson. While he was serving his country in the Pacific during World War II, Virginia worked at Detroit Diesel. They were married on May 10, 1946 and would have been married 70 years this upcoming May. Virginia truly enjoyed life and raising their four children. Wendell’s career responsibilities resulted in several moves for their family: From Redford to Oak Park, Michigan, to suburban Atlanta and then back to West Bloomfield. They enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the USA and Europe. She was active in bridge groups and was a frequent volunteer at the West Bloomfield election booth. She was also an avid golfer and became a member of the “Hole- in- One Club”. She loved watching the great golfers on TV and in person (her favorite was Lee Trevino), and she couldn’t wait to see the next tournament. She had been a member of Redford Baptist Church since 1955 (now Crosspointe Meadows Church) and had served faithfully in the church choir. Virginia was preceded in death by her son, Larry Michael, her parents, her sisters Marilyn Jackson and Patricia Wilson, her brother, George Woods and her grandsons, Brandon Wells and Trevor Meek. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Wendell, her daughter Karen (Michael) Wlodychak of Maumee, Ohio; her daughter Debra (Ronald) Alessandrini of Westland, her son, Scott (Beth) Johnson of Marietta, Georgia, her brother David (Charlene) Woods of Flushing, Michigan; 11 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Many thanks go to the caring staff at Arden Court Memory Care Center in Livonia, Michigan. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Crosspointe Meadows Church, 29000 Meadowbrook Road, Novi, MI on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Please refer to mannsfuneralhome.com to share your condolences.
