Stefanos “Steve” Vakratsis, 85, of Livonia Michigan passed away on November 6.
Steve was born in Greece to Agesilaos and Tsila.
When he was 19 he relocated by himself to the United States via ship into New York and settled in the Detroit area.
He began a long career in the restaurant business and worked for many local establishments.
He was married to Sandra on April 5, 1959. They were married for 63 years until her passing this year.
Steve really enjoyed soccer. He coached youth and high school, refereed, and cheered on his granddaughters who developed a love of the sport through him. He was well known in the local soccer community and watched soccer whenever he could.
He also loved going on vacations with his family and watching westerns and the Red Wings on TV. He was very proud of his vegetable garden he worked on each year,
Steve loved his family and doted on his granddaughters who absolutely loved their “papou”.
Steve is survived by his son Jeff (Diane) and daughter Rebecca.
He is also survived by his granddaughters Alexa (Matt), Christina and Alexondria, his brothers Angelo and Jim, nieces and nephews and other family.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, his parents Agesilaos and Tsila, his son Greg, and sisters Sophia and Mary.
Visitation will be held on November 13 from 2-8pm at Manns Funeral Home Livonia
He will be in-state for final visiting on November 14 at 10am with a funeral service at 11am at the funeral home.
Procession to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield will follow.
Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the US Soccer Foundation.
