Silven Koltyk, 90, passed away May 16, 2021. He was born in Detroit on May 23, 1930 to Nicholas and Anastazia Koltyk.
He earned his master’s degree from the University of Michigan in Music Education and Music Theory and continued his music profession for more than 70 years, playing his music at many celebrity functions. Silven played on many radio and television shows as a featured soloist during his army service in Aberdeen, Maryland during the 1950’s. He also released two CD’s of Ukrainian songs under the name “Sylvan Koltyk and Winds of Ukraine Orchestra”. In addition to being a teacher for Detroit and Birmingham Public School Districts in the Vocal Music Department, he was the former OLPH Choir director from 1964 – 1991.
Silven is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sister, Jeanette Onachuk; sons, Greg and Randy (Abbie) Koltyk; granddaughters, Kimberly Haar and Kristina Koltyk; great grandchildren, Anthony Burger and Aiden Elmore.
Visitation for Silven will be held Friday, May 21st from 3:00 – 8:00 PM at Manns Family Funeral Home.
Silven will be In-State for final visiting Saturday, May 22nd from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia 48154. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
