Shirley Anne Groff

Our very loved Mother, Shirley Anne Brickan Groff, passed away peacefully with family at her side on July 18th,2023 at Croasdaile Village in Durham, N.C. Formerly of Shallotte, N.C, Shirley lived 92 wonderful years until the time she lost her 10-year struggle with Dementia.

She was born in East Dearborn, Michigan on August 14,1930 to Meryl and Ethel (Klinger) Brickan. She graduated from Cooley High School in 1948 and went to work at Fisher Body in Detroit as a Clerical Assistant to the Engineers until marrying Hollen Edward Groff on August 8th,1952.

Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing golf, attending, and serving her church, and working with children in various roles throughout her life. She enjoyed boating, waterskiing, square dancing, bowling, and playing card games.

She is survived by her children; eldest son Hollen Mark Groff and his wife Rosanne, grandson Hollen Matthew Groff and his wife Kristan, great grandchildren Taylor and Will; daughter Karen McClain and her husband Michael, granddaughter Brea Griffith and her husband Christopher; youngest daughter Diane Groff and her wife LeAnn Hinson. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Hollen, mother Ethel, father Meryl, 2 brothers Robert and William, and her son Gordon.

A Graveside memorial service is planned for July 29th, 2023 at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, Michigan at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Shirley to Alzheimer’s Association or Dementia Alliance of N.C.
