Rey Tilden Helvenston (Til), 93, of Livonia, Michigan passed away on March 4, 2024.
Til was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 4, 1930 to the late Rey and Margaret (nee Tilden) Helvenston. Til graduated from Central High School in Xenia, Ohio and continued to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Dennison University in Granville, Ohio.
On May 1, 1954, Til was married to the love of his life, Elaine Creighton. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together this year. Together they raised 3 children: Mark Helvenston, Eric Helvenston, and Kirk (Lee Ann) Helvenston.
Over his 50-year career Til worked in several industries. He started his career in the sash & door business at East Side Lumber Company, followed by Huttig Sash & Door in Columbus. He later moved to Dover, Ohio and worked as a sales representative for Marlite, a division of Masonite corporation, and proceeded to operate several regions before being named General Sales Manager. Til later went to work for Iron City Sash and Door company as the Ohio General Manager. In the 80’s Til was first the President of Cuckler Buildings in Cedar Rapids, IA and then President of Star Buildings in Oklahoma City, Ok. In 1993 Til retired and moved to Fairfield Glade TN. He and Elaine loved living on the Plateau in TN. He was a 30+ year member of the Crossville Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and other capacities.
Til loved to read. He was a history buff and possessed a great vocabulary. He enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles! He liked to play golf in his younger days. He was a lover of all things “Big Ten” football, basketball, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. In the 90’s he was the president of the Fairfield Glade Association in Crossville TN.
Til was a proud veteran of the US Navy.
Til is predeceased by his parents and brother Brad. His memory will be honored and kept alive by his loving wife, Elaine; his children, Mark, Eric, and Kirk; his grandchildren, Mark Jr., Lauren and Noah; his great-grandson Walker, and sister Elizabeth Ernst.
