Mary Kay Moore passed away October 18, 2016 at the age of 82. She was born in Ann Arbor, MI to James and Georgia Wealch. Mary Kay received her BSN from the University of Michigan in 1956. On August 24, 1957, Mary Kay married Harry C. Moore, who died May 11, 1986. She received her MA from Central Michigan University in 1985 and retired from Oakdale Reginal Center in Lapeer, MI September of 1989. That same month, she moved to Peachtree City, GA after living in Capac, MI for 32 years, where she took a position as an independent consultant and expert witness to agencies providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities across the United States. Mary Kay received many honors and awards for her work with individuals with developmental disabilities; published numerous articles related to nursing and developmental disabilities; received the Michigan Nurses Association EXCELLENCE IN WRITING AWARD, in 1986; certified by the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association in 1996 as a CDDN; CDDN-E in 2009. She was a member of many organizations including the American Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association, where she also served as President, and was a member of ELCA South East Synod Council. Mary Kay moved back to Michigan July 2010. Mary Kay is survived by sons Dale Logan (Britt), Douglas Lee (Lia); grandchildren Ross, Logan, Meredith, Matthew, Taylor, Justin, Cameron and Mckenna; sister in law Joanne Wealch; nephews Mark (Laura), Scott (Norma); great nephews Mateo and Kaiden; great niece Kali Mary. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Georgia (nee Welsh); brother James Donald; husband Harry C. Moore; sister in law Betty Moore. Visitation for Mary Kay will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5-8PM at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia 48154. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11AM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30650 W. Six Mile, Livonia, 48152. A Memorial Service will also be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 109 E. Kempf, Capac, 48014.
