It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Mario Dajay Araquil, who left us on February 20, 2025, at the age of 81. He was more than just a father—he was our rock, our role model, and the foundation of our family. A man of few words, but whose actions spoke volumes, he led by example, teaching us the true meaning of love, dedication, and resilience.
Born on March 28, 1943, to Jose D. Araquil and Francisca L. Dajay, my dad grew up alongside his brothers, Len Araquil and Bogog Araquil. From a young age, he was driven, earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in the Philippines before moving to the United States in 1968 with my mother, Marlene Go, to build a better life for our family. Never one to settle, he later earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Central Michigan University, a testament to his relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
He and my mom shared 25 years together, raising three sons: Mario A. Araquil (wife, Renee Araquil), Marlvin R. Araquil, and the late Michael V. Araquil. Although their marriage ended in 1990, they remained united as parents. In 1992, my father found love again with Kathy James, and together they spent 33 beautiful years side by side. He also wholeheartedly welcomed Jessica James and Michael James into his life, loving them as his own.
Dad was a devoted grandfather, pouring his love and wisdom into his grandchildren: Migueal Araquil, Manuel Araquil, Mikayla Araquil, Maya Araquil, Najah Araquil, Mekhi Araquil, Julia, Kera, Andre, Shawnie, Jordan, Victoria, and Nayla. His legacy will live on through each of them, in their laughter, their strength, and their boundless potential.
After retiring at 65, he finally allowed himself to slow down—just a little. He found pure joy in camping with Kathy, spending time at their cabin, and simply being surrounded by nature. Those were the moments he cherished most, filled with peace, laughter, and love. A sports enthusiast through and through, he could always be found cheering for his favorite teams, whether it was football, baseball, or NASCAR—his passion for the game was contagious.
Dad didn’t always say much, but when he did, his words carried weight. More often, though, it was his actions that spoke for him. He showed us how to be strong but kind, disciplined but loving, and above all, how to put family first. His presence was steady, his love unwavering, and his impact immeasurable.
Our hearts are broken, but we take comfort in knowing that he lived a full and meaningful life, surrounded by those who adored him. We will carry his love and lessons with us always.
A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at Manns Family Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, 2025 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM.
