Kim Marie McEvoy, born September 3, 1966, passed away peacefully at her home on August 21, 2021, with her family and constant companion Bailey, her German Shepard, at her side. Known for her compassionate and fun-loving nature, Kim loved all animals, especially Bailey and her horse, Relampago, along with her cat, Callie, and bird, Pita.
Kim graduated from Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Michigan in 1984 and soon after began a life-long career in Emergency Medical Services. She began working at Taylor Ambulance and then joined the Livingston County Emergency Medical Services Department as a paramedic in September 1988. Upon moving to Brighton, Kim also joined the Brighton Township Fire Department, later the Brighton Area Fire Authority, where she served as a firefighter and sergeant until her retirement from the fire service.
Kim’s career at Livingston County EMS spanned several decades and was filled with distinction. She served as an Operations Supervisor at the time of her passing, having been promoted from paramedic to that position in June 1995. Throughout her tenure, she was involved with the Livingston County Hazardous Materials Response Team and led Livingston County EMS’s Expo Team to first place finishes in the state paramedic competition in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
When not working EMS, Kim spent a great deal of time with her horse, competing in dressage events and organizing dressage classes. Kim’s circle of friends was large and diverse, with her infectious cheerfulness drawing in people from all walks of life.
Kim is survived by her mother, Mary; her sisters, Suzan Coppola, and Leeanne (Gary) Boone; nephews Charles (Amanda) Prater and sons, Christopher (Kelli) Prater and sons, and Neal Andrew (Natasha) Boone and sons. She was predeceased by her father, Patrick.
A Funeral Mass with be celebrated on Saturday, August 28th at 11:00am with gathering at 10:30am at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh, Livonia 48154.
A Celebration of her Life will be held Monday, August 30th from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Crystal Gardens Banquet Center, 5768 E. Grand River, Howell 48843.
