James C. Walcott, affectionately known as "JC," passed away on January 25, 2025, in Hiawassee, Georgia, at the age of 92. He was born on August 17, 1932, in Blairsville, Georgia, to James C. Walcott and Florence Agnes Walcott.
On June 1, 1956, JC married the love of his life, Rita Walcott, with whom he shared many wonderful years until her passing on August 15, 2002. Together, they raised a loving family that includes their children: Mitchell Poff (Doreen), Rex Poff (deceased), Tammy Manns, James C. Walcott II, and Renee Gabriel (Tad). JC was also a proud grandfather to Edward Mitchell Poff Jr., Alicia Dutcher (deceased), Rex Poff (Kelly), Danielle Poff, Justin Poff, Jacob Poff, Mallory Silamianos (Nick), Meredith Corsetti (Joe), Whitney Vanatta, Kyle Manns, Austin Herbert, James C. Walcott, III and Wade Herbert. His legacy extends to numerous great-grandchildren.
JC served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force as Airman First Class from October 1951 - October 1955 and later built a successful career as an electrician at Chrysler before retiring. He raised his family in Royal Oak, Michigan, before he and Rita fulfilled their dream of building a retirement home in Canadian Lakes, Michigan. They also cherished their winters in Blairsville, Georgia.
A man of many talents and interests, JC was an avid bowler and a member of the PBA, golfer, fisherman, gardener, and hunter. He was a skilled handyman who took pride in completing the interior of his Canadian Lakes home himself. Known for his sense of humor and love for family gatherings, JC delighted his grandchildren with magic tricks and laughter. He was a devoted husband who cared for Rita with unwavering dedication during her illness.
JC’s warmth and kindness touched all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
JC will be buried in a private ceremony at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan
