Guy Laroo, 71, a long time resident of Livonia, MI died March 26, 2017, at St Mary Mercy Hospital. Guy was born in Torhout, Belgium on February 20, 1946. He moved to Canada as a young boy and then immigrated to the United States. Guy was a multisport varsity athlete (football, basketball, baseball, and track) and proud graduate of Servite Catholic High School. He had a brief stint playing minor league Federation baseball and was in the Navy reserve. Guy worked for several years in the automotive industry in quality assurance, was an avid sports fan, loved University of Michigan football, and was an even bigger fan of his grandsons’ sports teams. One of his fondest sports memories was attending the 1981 Rose Bowl game where Michigan defeated Washington. Guy frequently took his sons to Michigan football and basketball games and devoted time to coaching his sons in basketball and baseball. He pushed academics with his sons, proudly seeing both of them graduate from college. Guy retired in 2002 after surviving a stroke which slowed him in his retirement years. He spent countless hours with and developed a special bond with his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Grandpa Coins”, because grandpa frequently gave the boys dollar coins during visits. Guy was a devoted husband and a huge fan of his wife’s cooking. His presence at All Saints Catholic School and Canton Cardinal sporting events will be greatly missed. Guy will be immensely missed by his wife of 44 years; Sandra Laroo, sons; Christopher (Stephanie) and Michael Laroo, grandsons; Andrew and Braylon, and his brother Mark Laroo. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 10 am, in state at 9:30 am Saturday, April 1, 2017, at St Michael Catholic Church, 11441 Hubbard, Livonia. Visitation will be held from 2 pm to 8 pm with a rosary at 7 pm on Friday at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt Rd., Livonia.
