Glenn A. Bruneel
(April 11, 1954 – September 14, 2021)

At 67 years of age, Glenn A. Bruneel is now free from his 12+ year battle with diabetes and its relentless complications. He lived his life in Detroit and Livonia, MI and passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Glenn was born in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI to Andrew and Marion Bruneel (Paye) and was one of four children. He is survived by siblings Gary (Judy) Bruneel (niece Tasha), Catherine (Robert) Dobransky (nephews Cody and Drew); his niece Sonya (Ryan) Parry (great niece/nephew Addison and Landen). Glenn is preceded in death by his mother Marion, father Andrew, and sister Andrea.

Glenn was always there for anyone who ever needed him, needed a place to live, needed help, or needed anything…anything at all. Those who knew him have described him as a gentle kind soul who was generous and selfless. Regardless of how miserable he may have felt, he did not let that dampen his humorous character, positive attitude, kind heart, and love for others. Glenn was a true blessing to so many and will never be forgotten.
Glenn had earned a 4-year BA degree from Eastern Michigan for Accounting. He was self-employed and prepared tax returns. During his healthy years, Glenn enjoyed time with his family and friends. His hobbies included bowling (a 200 average and earning multiple 300 games), hunting, fishing, going to bingo, casino trips, listening to music, gardening, garage sale hunting and collecting, playing cards, cooking, making chocolate liquor drops/candy for craft shows, and doing puzzles. Glenn was very proud of his great niece and nephews. He was heartbroken when he realized he would not be able to see them grow into adulthood. Glenn did say that he knows they will grow up to become wonderful adults.

Glenn had grown weary from his constant battles with diabetes, feelings of isolation, and a life where he could no longer enjoy the things he loved most. He was ready to admit himself into Hospice Care in early March because he was now totally blind and could no longer care for himself. He felt as if he was now a burden on his loved ones. It is those loved ones that assured him he wasn’t a burden. They urged him to keep fighting. It was at their request he entered assisted living in hope his eyesight would improve and hence improve his quality of life. Typical of Glenn’s unselfish ways, he would do this for them and give life one more try. He was a very independent, strong, brave, and proud man. To lose his independence was very hard on him.

He knew his decision to let go would be difficult for all who love him. He expressed his sorrow, guilt, and the regrets he had for this decision numerous times to the family and friends he would leave behind. Although difficult for Glenn because of this, he was also excited as he was looking forward to the big reunion with his Grandparents, his Parents, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and the many pets who had passed before him.

There is great comfort and relief knowing that Glenn is now at peace. He can see again; he can walk again… the Lord has made Glenn whole again! Rejoice and give thanks for the time we had on this earth with Glenn! Please know, Glenn was very thankful for all the love and support from his family, friends, and caregivers.

To honor Glenn’s wishes, he was cremated with the ashes of his beloved pets (Ozzy & Kylie) and he requested in lieu of a funeral to have a “Celebration of Life” which will be held at Cathie and Rob’s House, White Lake, MI – October 16, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm - open house.
