Frederick Stockwell

December 31, 1969 — February 9, 2012

FREDERICK was a resident of Northville at the time of his death. He was 98 years of age. Born May 2, 1913 to Ross and Lizzie Belle Sawyer Stockwell, Fred was a native of Pontiac, and employed by Edson Moore Co. (dry goods) until his retirement. He previously resided in Redford, MI and Columbia, SC and was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Livonia, and formerly a member of All Saints, Pontiac, and Trinity Cathedral, Columbia, SC. A proud WW-II Army veteran, Fred earned a Bronze Star serving in the 9th Infantry Division, First Army, from 1942 to 1945, as an anti tank gunner in North Africa, Middle East and Western Europe campaigns. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie, brother, Joseph, sisters, Eleanor Gratiot and Isabel Stockwell, and nephew, James B. Stockwell. Fred is survived by loving nieces, Ann Rugelis (Gunars), Mary Schultz (Dana), Julie Peterson (David); dear cousins, Robert G. Waddell of Rochester Hills, Sally Goshorn (William) of Ann Arbor; Goddaughter, Diane Gainor LaBoda of Ann Arbor, and Godsons, Dean Gainor of Redford, and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; and close friends. Family will gather and receive friends on Monday, February 13th at 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 16360 Hubbard Rd, Livonia. An Army Honor Guard will conduct a brief ceremony before the close of the Mass. Burial will take place after the funeral luncheon, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Detroit. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Andrew's or All Saints churches. Please share a memory or condolence.
