Elizabeth "Betty" Zimmerman passed away peacefully October 21, 2016 just 2 days shy of her 90th birthday. She was a wonderful wife to her late husband Robert Zimmerman. Betty loved her children Paul (Rose) Zimmerman and Ann (Richard) Heinicke, along with grandchildren Lauren, Gretchen, Carley and Michael and great-grandsons Theo and his brother coming in March with many years of music, love and laughter. Betty began her life's journey at Eloise Hospital in Wayne, MI where she was born and raised. Here she began her life of compassion for others. She always told wonderful stories of her many escapades on the hospital grounds. Betty graduated from Michigan State College with a degree in Music Therapy where she worked her talents for many years. After her children were of school age, she began another career as a Paraprofessinal in the Redfeord Union School District until retiring in the late 80's. Her love for the Redford Union Schools also found her with a position as a School Board Member. After retiring she began her years of volunteering; ranging from answering phones at church, working with patients at Botsford Hospital, passing out lunches at Fort Street Presbyterian Church-Open Door soup Kitchen, helping with the American Red Cross Blood Banks and working with the Wayne County Services for the Blind. Piano, MSU, reading, crossword puzzles, travel and gingersnap cookies were just some of her favorite things. Being with her children and grandchildren was the highlight of her life. She will be greatly loved and missed by many. Visitation will take place on October 29th at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 27475 5 Mile Road, Livonia at 10:00AM with a Memorial Service at 11:00AM.
