Earl W. Blohm, 86, of Livonia, passed away April 10, 2017. Earl was born in Mt. Clemens, MI on September 11, 1930, on his father’s birthday – what a great present! The oldest of three siblings, he was raised on a dairy farm and before leaving for school, had to help his dad milk cows. He rode his tricycle to a one room school house, where one teacher taught all eight grades. When his sister was old enough to go to school, she would stand on the back of his tricycle and he would ride her to school. He graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1947. After graduation, Earl worked full time on the dairy farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army for service during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged, he decided to go to Lawrence Tech in Highland Park, MI, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Michigan Tool, which became Textron. The last fifteen years of his career were spent at Ford Motor Company. 1958 was a busy year for him because he also married Maxine Hansen. After her death in 1990, he joined a square dance group called Dancing Singles where a lovely widow caught his eye and whom he married in 1993. Earl and Carol were actively involved with several square dance clubs, most recently The Star Twirlers. Earl was a proud member of Northville Lodge #186 F & A. M., serving on the Masonic Temple Board several years. He was also a proud member of Orient Chapter #77 O. E. S., where he served as Patron several times. He and Carol loved to travel in their motor home and visited many historical places, and attended many out of state Square Dance Conventions while doing this. He built a nice room for the cats in the motor home and he would load up the cats, get the dogs in and boost Carol in the cab, hook up the car and away the family would go! Earl also liked to grow vegetables. The garden got to be so big that there was hardly any room for the dogs. He finally relented and reduced the garden to a size that would feed four and not twenty-four! Earl was a kind and generous man. He would give you the shirt off his back, and if that wasn’t enough, he would put on another and give you that one too. He was one of the truly good guys! He will be greatly missed! Earl is survived by his loving wife, Carol; step-children, Dr. Scott E. (Dr. Kimberly) Muzinski, and Ms. Lynn C. Pratt; his beloved grandchildren, Bradley Scott Pratt and Samuel Earl Muzinski; his Schmidt Nephews and their families; his niece, Joyce Jordan and her family; many friends from square dancing, senior exercise class and his many, many Fraternal Brothers and Sisters. Visitation for Earl will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 1:00 – 8:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM, Eastern Star Service to follow at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia, 48154. Earl will be In-State on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 10:30 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Clarenceville United Methodist Church, 20300 Middlebelt, Livonia, 48152. Memorial Contributions in Honor of Earl may be made to Tailwaggers or Paws for Cause/Leader Dogs for the Blind.
