PLEASE VISIT THE FAMILY at the funeral home, on Saturday, August 28th at 10:00 AM, with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM., with Jim Trosko officiating as we honor the life of Dorothy Trosko. ~ DOROTHY MARY TROSKO, long time resident of Farmington Hills, Michigan, born August 26th, 1939 in Muskegon, Michigan, died on February 23, 2010 after being afflicted with the terminal disease, ALS. Dorothy was the youngest child of Andrew & Christina Trosko of Muskegon Heights, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen Winkel. She is survived by her sister , Emma Schoolmaster, of Grand Rapids, Mi., brothers, Julius Trosko of Broomfield , Colorado and James E. Trosko (Kay) of Okemos, Mi., nieces, Connie Owston (Pete), and Beverly Wiedemann (Bill), nephews, Larry Trosko (Kathy), and Philip Trosko, and several Great nieces and nephews. In addition, she was very close, during her childhood, with Connie Schoolmaster Owston, her niece. How does one take a measure of a person like Dorothy? She grew up with her brother, "Jimmy", enjoying the wonders of the outdoor life in the Muskegon area, including multiple trips to their sister Emma's cottage, where Dorothy, Connie, and Jimmy spent much of their childhood hiking the shores of Lake Michigan. She was attracted to the life of the mind and reading. She devoted her whole life to those around her, and she sacrificed much of her personal life to caring for her elder parents, first, living with them while her father was failing, and later, with her failing mother. Dorothy graduated from Muskegon Heights High School, and then went on to get a B.A. degree at Western Michigan University and later a Masters degree from the University of Michigan. She became a well-respected and loved high school English teacher at Stevenson High School in Livonia, MI. Her influence as an English teacher even reached as far as Kyoto, Japan. She served as a powerful role model to her students. One could never measure the positive influence she had on her students. While all her energies seemed to go into making others happy, her students, colleagues, family, friends and two dogs, Barney and the late Mc Duff, returned her love in a totally unconditional, loving way. She loved to travel, internationally, and had a passion for collecting various artistic artifacts. Join the family on Saturday, August 28th, at 10 AM, with a Memorial Service at 11 AM. Please share a memory or condolence.
