Dolores Barbara Zimmer

Dolores Barbara Zimmer, (Dee), Age 93, of Livonia, Michigan, passed away Saturday June 29th, 2024.

Dolores was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on October 3, 1930 to Adolph Opland and Josephine (Jaroslawski) Opland. She graduated from Saint Ladislaus High School and continued on to receive a Masters from Marygrove College.

Dolores worked as a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools at White Elementary for 45 years. She loved going to her log cabin in Lupton near Rose City and enjoyed being outdoors. She was also actively involved with her faith in the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Genevieve–St. Maurice Women’s Sodality. In addition, she was initiated into Delta Kappa Gamma in June 1981, which is an organization of key woman educators. She belonged to the Alpha Chapter and served as their treasurer for over 30 years.

Dolores is survived by her niece, Suzanne M. Young; her nephew, John O. Young. She was godmother (formerly and informally) to numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn; her adopted niece, Melinda, and friend, Antoinette (Toni) VanGorder, who she took into her household in the time of need.

Dolores was also very fond of her dogs, just to name a few: Doni, Odie, Jingles, Happy, Daisy, Rags, Snoopy, Skippy, Speckles, Gigi and Bambi

I, Mark, and Wendy have had the privilege of helping Dolores out through these final years, Dolores has been a real trooper! We are sure going to miss her, such an inspirational person!

Visitation for Dolores will be held Monday, July 8th from 10:00 AM until the time of mass at 10:30 AM at St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Catholic Church, 29015 Jamison, Livonia 48154.
