David Beckwith Miller of Dearborn Heights, Michigan passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at the age of 90. He died peacefully of natural causes on the anniversary of his deceased wife (Dorothy’s) birthday.
Dave was born in Springfield, Illinois on December 7, 1930 to Robert E. and Elizabeth K. Miller of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of his immediate family, having four older brothers (Charles, William, Robert and Daniel) who have all preceded him in death.
He earned a BA from the University of Chicago, then joined the US Army and served as a Sergeant in Korea during the Korean conflict. Upon returning as a veteran, he worked for Argus Camera in Ann Arbor and Stuttgart, and at Wilson Sporting Goods in Chicago, before beginning a long career with Ford Motor Company.
David married Dorothy Laban in Chelsea, Michigan in 1955, and they were married for almost 49 years before she passed away in 2004. Together they raised seven children, and enjoyed playing bridge and traveling, especially to visit extended family.
He is survived by his children; Karen Synowiec (Larry-deceased), Alan (Sally), Janet (Sandy Bredlow), Dorothy Kryskowski (David), Daniel (Sylvia), Douglas and David (Laura). He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Francis “Joe” Laban (Jennette). He has 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, along with several nephews and nieces from his brothers’ families.
An opportunity for visitation with the family and celebration of life will be held at Manns Family Funeral Home in Livonia, Michigan on Monday, June 21st from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. A military ceremony for internment of his ashes will be held on July 21st at 1:30 PM at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
