Alfred Edward Cartier, Jr., 86, of Redford, Michigan passed away on July 29, 2020.
Alfred was born in Detroit on December 13, 1933 to Barbara and Alfred E. Cartier, Sr. After graduating high school he served in an Army intelligence unit in Germany, during the Korean War. Upon completing his duty in the Army, Alfred returned home to his family, friends and most importantly, his sweetheart Janet Wilhelm. They married on July 7, 1956 and were married for 63 years. Soon after the wedding Alfred and Janet moved to the Washington DC area where he began work with the Central Intelligence Agency, earned a Bachelor degree from Georgetown University and they started their family. As their family began to grow, they moved back to the Detroit area and he began working for American Motors and eventually moved on to Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1996. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, stayed active as an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts, served on the Redford Township school board, began tracing his genealogy, and helped out wherever he could, especially at church.
Alfred is survived by his children, Steven (Luisa), Anne Marie, John (Thomas Long), and Mary Jeanne; his grandchildren, Danielle, Michelle (Joseph), Donald, Amanda and Alexander; his great-grandchildren, Jack and Maximus; his brother Michael and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet, his parents Alfred and Barbara and his sister Barbara Jean.
Alfred will be In-State for final viewing on Tuesday, August 4th from 10:30 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Genevieve – St. Maurice Catholic Church, 29015 Jamison, Livonia 48154.
