Aileen Ann (Plafchan) Karlewski, 91, of Redford Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2019 in Clarkston Michigan. Aileen was born in Detroit on August 4, 1928, to Alex and Anna Plafchan, the second of three daughters. She graduated in 1945 from Chadsey High School in Detroit and went to work as a teller at Manufacturers Bank in Detroit. A few years later, while at a dance, she met Richard Karlewski and they were married within two years on May 29, 1949. Aileen and Richard were married 40 years until his passing in October 1989. In addition to working at Manufacturers Bank, she also worked at the Bank of Livonia which then became Michigan National Bank. In 1970, she left banking and became a tax preparer with the CPA firm of Nastanski and Desmon. She continued to prepare taxes in CPA firms and at home until 2014. Aileen enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states along with many Canadian provinces as well as many countries. She was actively involved in Sacred Heart Byzantine Catholic Church and received an award from the Bishop for her years of dedicated service. She and Richard bowled in their church league for many years. She also dearly loved her granddaughters and twice took them on trips to Disney World along with a trip to the American Girl Store in Chicago. In her later years, she would walk Livonia Mall and Laurel Park Place mall with friends to stay in shape. Aileen is survived by her son Rick (Patti) Karlewski of Clarkston, granddaughters Jessica (Jason) Kanaan of Macomb MI, Stephanie Karlewski of Denver CO and Rylee Karlewski of Clarkston, sister Gloria Piechota, sister in law Mary Karlewski and many nieces, nephews and cousins along with other family and friends. Aileen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her mother Anna, father Alex and sister Charlotte. Visitation for Aileen will be held Friday, November 1, 2019 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM with Parastas at 7:00 PM at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia 48154. Aileen will be In-State for Final Visiting on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 9:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Byzantine Catholic Church, 29125 W. Six Mile, Livonia, 48152. Memorial donations in memory of Aileen can be made to the Dementia or Alzheimer’s charity of one’s choice.
